Despite the prolonged aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Korea's trade volume exceeded $1 trillion (about 1,185 trillion won) this year. It's the shortest time in history. For the first time this year, Samsung Electronics surpassed 110 billion dollars (about 130.37 trillion won) in export performance, and POONGLIM Pharmatech, which developed and produced minimum residual (LDV) syringes known as "K-injectors," also exceeded 7 million dollars in exports.

 

According to the Korea International Trade Association on the 6th, the 58th Trade Day ceremony was held at COEX in Samseong-dong, Seoul, in the morning, and a government award ceremony for 599 export merit and a top export award ceremony for 1,573 companies. Lee Gil-sang, CEO of Daechang and Kim Ki-ok, CEO of Genolutions, received the Gold Tower Industrial Medal, Hussein Alcatani S-Oil, and Kim Ki-ho, CEO of SM Steel, and Ryu Wan-soo, CEO of Dongsung Huaintech, and Jung Hae-kyun, CEO of Pims, received the Dongtap Industrial Medal.

Kim Ki-ok, CEO of Genolutions, who received the Gold Tower Industrial Medal, succeeded in localizing nucleic acid extraction equipment based on the knowledge and know-how obtained by distributing nucleic acid extraction equipment that relied on imports in Korea. In particular, it contributed to enhancing the status of K-quarantine by developing a technology to reduce the extraction time of nucleic acids from disease viruses, which took up to three hours, to 15 minutes and releasing an automatic mobile nucleic acid extractor for on-site emergency tests.

 

Kim Ki-ho, the CEO of SM Steel, who received the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, led the cost reduction and production increase by developing technologies for stainless steel products used in the home appliance and construction industries, and special steel and structural steel pipes, which are major materials in semiconductors, shipbuilding, and petrochemicals. Based on this, it succeeded in exploring overseas markets by increasing international competitiveness of products by obtaining various certifications. Jeong Hae-kyun, CEO of Pims, who received the Dongtap Industrial Medal, succeeded in localizing high-quality mask production source technology using hybrid construction methods and was recognized for his contribution to industrial development by exporting more than 80% of sales every year.

 

Representatives of 10 companies, including Samsung Electronics, Krafton, and Studio Dragon, also took the podium representing the top award-winning companies of 1,573 exports. Samsung Electronics, which won the $110 billion tower, broke the record three years after winning the $90 billion tower in 2018. Krafton won the 800 million dollar tower. Krafton is the producer of "Battleground," the world's best-selling game, and is exporting it to China, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

 

Studio Dragon, which won the $100 million tower, is Asia's largest drama studio with 180 global premium intellectual property (IP). It covers the entire process from production of dramas such as "Mr. Sunshine" and "Goblin" to content planning, development, financing, production and distribution. Pungri Pharmatech, which developed the smallest residual syringe in Korea for the first time, received $7 million.
